Mick Fanning Crowned 2013 ASP World Champ

In an epic finale to the season, longtime Dragon athlete Mick Fanning clinched his third ASP World Championship in pumping, 10- to 12-foot at the Billabong Pipeline Masters.

On the final, nail-biting day of the final event of season, Mick Fanning was faced with an uncertain path to the 2013 World Title: he’d automatically take home the title if he made it past the quarterfinals, otherwise reigning World Champ Kelly Slater would have to lose the event in order for Mick to win the title. But Mick sealed the deal on his own terms, leaving nothing to fate. In the final moments of his quarterfinal heat Mick pulled into a perfect Pipe set wave, earning a 9.7 and ultimately taking home the 2013 world title.

“I’m just overwhelmed with emotion right now,” Mick said after his quarterfinal heat. “It was a fun year. I just really wanted to enjoy my time on Tour. A couple years ago I wasn’t really enjoying it, and I got to the end of that year and decided I just really wanted to soak in my time on Tour and just breathe, appreciating what we have and how lucky we are, and that’s what this year was.”

Mick went on to place third overall in the event, wrapping up yet another stellar year on Tour. Mick’s consistently been among the Top 10 on the ASP World Tour since qualifying in 2002, taking home world titles in 2007 and 2009. Fanning’s 2013 season was one of his most consistent years on Tour, and included a Quiksilver Pro France victory, a runner-up finish in Fiji, and semifinal finishes at Teahupoo, Snapper, Rio de Janeiro, and Pipeline.

Jordy Lawler Wins Be The Influence Surf Pro Junior!

Congratulations to Dragon's Jordan Lawler for taking out the men's division of the Be The Influence Surf Pro Junior at Coffs Harbour yesterday. Jordy outsed Jack Duggan to secure the win in clean two-foot surf, and was one of the most exciting surfers to watch all weekend, launching massive airs and surfing with style and flow on both his backhand and forehand. In the Final, Jordy was in second position with two minutes on the clock but was able to find a wave, executing a big turn and stylish air-reverse to move into the lead and claim his first ASP Pro Junior Series win.

“This is incredible!” Lawler said. “My family is here and to win my first ASP event in front of them feels amazing! I’ve had such a good time in Coffs Harbour, the weather has been great and the waves are fun and now I’ve won the event and I’ll remember this forever.”

Jacob Willcox wins GOLD in the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships!

Massive congratulations to Dragon's Jacob Willcox for clinching victory in the final of the U16 Boys ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, held this morning in Nicaragua. Jacob is now officially the World Champion for the U16 category! Congratulations must also be extended to Luke Hynd, who had a great contest and finished up 4th in the U18s. Cory Teunissen grabs 2nd at Pro Wake Tour in Georgia, USA!

Massive congratulations to our boy Cory for taking out second place at the first stop of the Pro Wake Tour in Acworth, Georgie. This was Cory's first ever competitive PWT stop, riding against the best wakeboarders in the world and he absolutely dominated to come out with the second place. To see his finals run, click here. Jacob Willcox Wins U16 Teenage Rampage at Maroubra

Congratulations to our boy Jacob Willcox for taking victory in the 16 and under boys final. Strong southerlies created tricky conditions for the finalists on the last day of the Teenage Rampage OZ Invitational at Maroubra. The West Australian Dragon slayer threw down a series of lightening fast carves and whips to take the win with a two wave total of 14.77. Frame of Mind: Gigi Ruf "Backcountry Inspirations"

We've just released the second episode of a revealing four-part webisode series, Frame of Mind, featuring Gigi Rüf, Luke Mitrani, Danny Davis and Chris Benchetler. Frame of Mind candidly captures the seldom seen moments that inspire the athletes antics and interests both on and off the mountain. In the second episode, take an exclusive journey with Gigi Rüf through the Alaskan backcountry as he talks about what motivates him to ride and the inspiration behind his two signature series goggles—the APXs and Rogue.

“For me, snowboarding shows a great deal of self expression,” says Gigi. “Picking your line is like connecting the dots on an empty canvas, and if the snow is good, I wish to be there. For my signature Rogue goggles, we made this fun Dragon Alliance logo with these creatures and spaceships. My kids inspire me, and they helped inspire this goggle design as well.” 

Dragon On Top at Opening AMA Supercross Event

Congratulations to Dragon's Rockstar Energy team rider, Davi Millsaps, for taking out the first race of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross in Murrieta, California. Before a sold-out crowd of over 45,000, Millsaps opened the the 250SK Class Main Event with a dominant win, besting the field with a 6.44 second margin of victory. 

“It was a great night for me,” said Millsaps. “This is my first win since 2010, and I was just trying to keep calm out there. It has been a long time since I have led a race, so it was hard to calm my nerves.”
